Maintenance Mayhem 2026: That's a Wrap!
On Tuesday, September 22, USAA hosted its second annual Maintenance Mayhem at Flywheel Greenville. Maintenance professionals from across the Upstate went head to head in a series of timed challenges for cash prizes, trophies and bragging rights, with onsite teams and management company leaders there to cheer them on.
Maintenance Mayhem was built by maintenance professionals, for maintenance professionals. The competitors are after individual titles and cash, but the day itself is a celebration of every maintenance professional who keeps our communities running.
By the end of the day, six events had produced six different winners. Every competitor brought something different to the floor, and it showed just how much skill is working in Upstate apartment communities every day.
Six Challenges, One Overall Champion
Every challenge at Maintenance Mayhem is based on every day service requests maintenance professionals are tasked with on the job.
The games themselves come courtesy of Grubb Properties. Their team built the competition stations and provides them for the event, which is a big part of why Maintenance Mayhem is possible here in the Upstate. We're grateful for their partnership and their investment in our maintenance community.
Competitors take on five technical challenges:
- Water Heater Challenge
- Ice Maker Challenge
- Kwikset Lock Change Challenge
- Kitchen Faucet Challenge
- Toilet Valve Challenge
The fastest time in each challenge wins that category and cash prizes!
The sixth challenge is the derby car race. Before the event, each competitor builds a derby car using items from their maintenance shop, all built to specific specs. The cars are raced side by side, and the fastest time takes the category. Attendees also vote on their favorite design, and the car with the most votes earns the People's Choice: Derby Car award.
Once all six challenges are complete, each competitor's times are added together to determine the overall champions, with awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Every winner goes home with cash prizes, and every competitor is entered into our raffle prize drawings just for participating.

USAA's vision is for Maintenance Mayhem to grow into a full day for the Upstate's maintenance professionals, with education, networking and competition all in one place. A day where techs can sharpen their skills, connect with peers, and compete in front of a crowd that come to cheer them on.
